An El Paso native, Larry Clark studied music at the University of North Texas under the great Eugene Conley, one of the best tenors ever to sing with the Metropolitan Opera. After UNT, Larry took part in the Des Moines Iowa Apprenticeship Program. From there, he won a spot with the New York City Opera Touring Company, where he worked for several years, performing in “Carmen, Rigoletto,” and other works. He moved to New York in 1984 and worked with the New York Opera Theater, the New York Opera Forum, and various opera companies across Pennsylvania and New York. Larry was named finalist in the D’Amato Opera Competition and was one of 14 finalists in the worldwide Giuseppe Di Stefano International Competition for Tenors.
He has performed for Van Cliburn, sang in a number of concerts with country singer Lee Ann Rimes, and worked as a voice consultant for Prentice Barnett, past president of the Vocal Majority.
Mr. Clark returned to Denton in 1990 and performs in concerts, musicals and theater as well as teaching voice to students of all ages and styles. He has been in the vocal teaching business for over 20 years. Please take the time to read some of the testimonials on this site, all written by his students.
